Summary: And they lived happily ever after.
And the minuet between the heart and the breath, is my lullaby.
And the minuet between the heart and the breath is gonna rock me every time.
And the minuet between the heart and the breath saved my life.
As I lay upon your chest, baby, I’m satisfied.
Allison can’t remember the last time she felt so content.
She’s lying in Greg’s arms and the flowers he gave her earlier that day are in a vase on his dresser. They saved their patient and their relationship. Their friends and colleagues are supportive of what they have together.
“What?” he asks sleepily.
She props herself up on one elbow and looks into his eyes. “What are you talking about?”
“You sighed. I wondered why.”
“I did?”
“Yes.”
“I was just thinking about how happy I am,” she admits.
He smiles. “Me too, Allison. I didn’t think it was possible for me to feel this way again. I never thought I would meet someone that I could trust. I’m glad you made the effort to break down my defenses.”
His words make her feel as if she’s on top of the world. She had taken a huge risk in pushing him for a relationship. If things had turned out differently she could have ended up with no job and a bad reputation in the medical community. She tries not to dwell on those thoughts though, because things worked out the way she hoped.
She can’t begin to form words that will even begin to express how happy she is in this moment and instead of trying, she leans forward and kisses him. It doesn’t take long for the kiss to heat up and turn into something more.
They make love slowly and gently, expressing emotions too strong to put into words through their touches and their eye contact.
When they’re done, she snuggles back into his arms, head on his chest listening to the beating of his heart.
“I love you,” he says, placing a kiss on the top of her head.
“I love you, too,” she says quietly.
She knows that they may fight but she also knows that it doesn’t get any better than this. She has found her happily ever after and she is determined to hold on to it at any cost.
